06/04/05 - Labour's Economic Boasts - 'All Talk'

On the day Labour were smirking about the strength of the economy, major employerMG Rover has fallen into deep crisis, sending shock waves across the car industry in the UK.
Swindon's economy is heavily dependent on the car industry, with both Honda and BMW as major local employers. Swindon Conservative candidates Robert Buckland and Justin Tomlinson are alarmed thatGovernment economic policies are causing real damage to the manufacturing sector.
Robert Buckland, "The truth is that under Labour, manufacturing is in free fall, whilst wasteful public sector jobs are created at the drop of a hat."
Justin Tomlinson, "Britain's productivity and competitiveness are in decline - all because the Labour Government are obsessed with regulation and stealth taxes, crippling businesses of all sizes."
A Conservative Government would cut regulation and red-tape, which combined with a low taxing economy would help preserve and develop the manufacturing sector, so crucial for Swindon.
