31/03/05 - Crooks Should Tremble With Fear

 
Conservative Leader Michael Howard has declared war on yobs who bring misery to local communities.
 
Unveiling his five-point plan, Mr Howard vowed to turn the tables on the tearaways who blight the lives of law-abiding people.
 
"I don't want members of the public looking over their shoulders.  I want yobs looking round in fear.  Instead of greeting the police with contempt I want them to fear them.  It's time to give the yobs a dose of the fear they've been dishing out to the rest of us."
 
"Decent, hardworking families are regularly intimidated by yobs.  It makes me sick that people have to put up with this kind of nonsense.  I've lost count of the times hard-working families have told me there's no point complaining because nothing ever seems to happen."
 
"In today's Britain no one seems prepared to take a stand - to hold these arrogant young yobs to account for their appalling behaviour.  This is making the everyday quality of people's lives worse in very real ways."
 
The Conservatives are committed to:
  • 5,000 extra police officers a year, adding upto 40,000 over the next 8 years
  • Locally elected police chiefs
  • Cutting police paper work and the endless red tape
  • Tougher sentences
Councillor Justin Tomlinson, North Swindon Conservative Parliamentary Candidate, "It is only the Conservatives who are tough on crime.  The Labour Government is full of excuses and fudge.  As a local resident, I want action on crime.  We deserve to be safe, and the criminal minority should fear crime - no excuses."
