LABOUR FIRE CONTROL ROOM PLANS SHOULD BE SHELVED, SAY CANDIDATES
Swindons Conservative Candidates have welcomed a Conservative pledge to scrap Labours plans to shut down Local Fire Control Rooms and replace them with a South West regional Fire Control Centre.
Justin Tomlinson, North Swindons candidate, said: Labours plan to end local control over our fire service is barmy. The South West region is 23,000km square and cannot be adequately served by a remote regional bureaucracy. Lives will be put at risk by this plan. The next Conservative Government will scrap this dangerous proposal.
Robert Buckland, South Swindons candidate, added: Our local Fire and Rescue Authority should be allowed to make organisational decisions based upon local needs, rather than top down regional decision-making. The next Conservative Government will halt the creation of Regional Fire Control Centres and will encourage active co-operation between fire brigades. Labour is quite literally playing with fire.
