21/01/05 - Bad Deal From Labour

Letters Page, Evening Advertiser

I was horrified to read the North Swindon Labour MP letter claiming Swindon gets a good deal from the Labour Government.

Year on year, we the local residents have seen our Council Tax bills rocket.

This is a bad deal for we the local residents.

Whilst he is right to claim the Government has increased funding, they have also transferred additional services onto the Council, far outstripping any increases.  In 1997 the Council received 72% of its money from the Government, this is now down to just 67% - no wonder Council Tax bills have doubled since Labour came to power!

This is a bad deal for we the local residents.

In simple terms we have less money in our pockets because of Labour.

This is a bad deal for we the local residents.

I am proud to be part of the Conservative Council that is doing everything to end Labour's Council Tax hikes.

That is a good deal for we the local residents.
