TORIES TARGET YOUTH CRIME
The Conservatives are holding a summit to find ways of protecting young people from crime. This summit is not just to find ways of preventing youngster from committing crime, but also to examine how they can avoid being victims.
Survey Shows Young People Are Twice As Likely To Be Victims

A recent survey showed young people are twice as likely to be victims of crime as adults.

It also revealed almost half of those in mainstream education were targeted last year.

The summit is being hosted by Shadow Home Secretary David Davis MP (left) and Charles Hendry, Shadow Minister for Young People.

It has the backing of the Association of Chief Police Officers.

The Association says it is keen to "shatter the myths surrounding youth crime" and help young people become "valuable members of the community".

Cllr Justin Tomlinson, North Swindon Parliamentary Spokesman welcomed this summit, "Fear of crime is a real issue for young people. Whilst I was National Conservative Future Chairman, I was delighted that Charles Hendry came with me to meet the students of New College. Wediscussed their issues of concern, and the fear of crime was clearly highlighted."
"Locally I am working with Cllr Brian Ford who is the Conservative Lead Member for Community Safety in Swindon. This work includes looking at the night time economy, where it is vital we help maintain a safe environment for the 6000 people who go into the town centre on Friday and Saturday nights."
