19/11/04 - Cllr Tomlinson Meets Kingsdown Students

Councillor Justin Tomlinson, North Swindon Conservative Parliamentary spokesman joined a spokesman from the Lib Dems and Labour Party in meeting the Year 10 students at Kingsdown School.  The visit was arranged as part of their work on politics and democracy.

The first part of the visit was to watch a series of performances by the students relying their thoughts on the political process, followed by speeches from each of the political representives of the importance of using your vote.

The second part of the visit was to meet the individual classes to answer specific questions from the students.

Councillor Justin Tomlinson, "This was an enjoyable experience.  I was extremely impressed with the interest, and wide range of topics the students wanted to discuss.  During my speech I was keen to show that they can define the issues that are relevant, and how young people have influenced my decision to launch the ice-skating disco at The Link, the construction of the new skateboarding park, and how they could influence my future plans for youth projects.

As someone who also first took an interest in local politics at school, I hope I have helped play a part in sparking an interest in the next generation of potential politicians, where they too can help make a real difference."
