North Swindon Conservatives will shortly be selecting the candidate to represent them at the next General Election.
Candidatesfrom the national approved candidates list had until February 4th 2004 tosubmit their CV. Over the following 2 months, North Swindon Conservatives will whittle down the applicants through a series of interviews, until a handful of candidates will be contest a final round where all the members of North Swindon Conservatives will be able to attend and vote. This final round will be in early April.
North Swindon is currently held by Michael Wills MP (Labour), who was elected in 1997, when the new North Swindon seat was created. Michael Wills MP currently has just over an 8000 majority, but for the Conservatives to form the next Government this is the type of seat that the Conservatives must win.
In 2001, North Swindon selected the popular and experienced Swindon Councillor Nick Martin, who has ruled himself out for a re-run this time round.
In the last 18 months North Swindon Conservatives have gone from strength to strength. We have defended all our existing Council seats (Abbey Meads, Haydon Wick, Highworth andStratton)and made spectacular gains inonce traditional Labour areas ofSt. Philips and Covingham, plus excellent swings in Western and Moredon. These results all show that come the General Election, North Swindon will be keenly contested between the two major parties.
The final result of the selection process, plus interviews with the successful candidate will be posted on this website after the final round.
