Conservatives Extend Recycling In Swindon

Across the Country Conservative Councils re-cycle more than Labour and Liberal Councils.

It is no different here in Swindon, the Conservatives are taking measures to deliver record levels of re-cycling.

Improvements are being made to the doorstep collection recycling round provided by Swindon Borough Council for 28,000 homes in the Borough, thanks to the Conservatives.

From the 1 December 2003, users of the service will be able to put out cardboard based material, in addition to the existing newspapers, magazines and junk mail. The cardboard may include packaging from foodstuffs and of course the traditional cardboard box.

It is estimated that the total waste collected and therefore diverted from landfill, will double because of this improvement.

Cllr FoleyThe Lead Member for Swindon Services, Conservative Councillor Fionuala Foley said: "The Conservatives are committed to recycling. Not only are we helping the environment, but diverting waste from landfill helps keepCouncil Tax bills down. This is a significant improvement in the recycling service provided and enables a further 11% of total household waste to be recycled."
