Local support for Labour is in meltdown, and that is the view of the Labour Party.
With Labour currently on 28 Councillors, the Conservatives on 23, and the Lib Dems on 8, there is every chance the Conservatives could take control of the Council for the first time in 20 years.
With a Labour Government, 2 Labour MP's and a Labour Council, they have failed to escape the blame for their disasterous failures in the Council including:
* We are now ranked amongst the worst 13 Councils in the UK.
* 32% Council Tax hike in just 2 years.
* A failed education OFSTED report.
* A failed social services report.
* Endless waste and mismanagement.
The residents in Swindon have clearly had enough of Labour. Firstly in the crucial Council by-election in January, Labour lost a seat to the Conservatives in a landslide victory for Ray Fisher (Stratton St. Margaret), and now as the May election campaign is fully underway, Labour are facing a backlash from angry local residents.
Fay Howard, Labour candidate for Parks has already acknowledged Labour face heavy losses, and I quote, 'We are going to see a Tory-led Council'.
Labour have accepted the conventional wisdom that enough is enough and it is time for change.
The Conservatives are ready to help deliver immediate improvements to Swindon Council, which has suffered from Labour's endless waste and mismanagement for too long.
